The University of Kentucky College of Medicine is excited to announce that Lauren Greathouse has been promoted to the newly created position reflecting the growth of the college and its need for a strategic and effective communications approach.

In her role as the assistant dean for communications and strategy, she oversees all communications, marketing, and alumni engagement needs in the college and will spearhead the development of the next strategic plan.

This advancement in leadership represents the college’s growing demand for promotional materials, compelling storytelling, design and branding, community engagement, philanthropy, and other communications and marketing projects. Her new position will allow her to lead the fulfillment of needs for a growing academic medical college with a growing alumni base.

“Lauren is a true leader who has been instrumental in planning, developing, and executing communications for our mission and vision of a healthier Kentucky,” Dean Charles Griffith, MD, MSPH, said. “She has served as senior director of communications at the UK College of Medicine for six years, and during that time, has assembled a strong communications, marketing, and alumni team to help tell the college’s story.”

In her tenure, Greathouse has established short- and long-term multi-campus communications strategies to support the college’s mission and share it with internal and external audiences. Under her leadership, the Office of Communications completed a multi-year-long development of a new College of Medicine website and launched a biannual magazine, four social media accounts, and a weekly college-wide newsletter to keep faculty, staff, learners, and alumni informed and engaged.

She has also overseen the process for numerous print, digital, and video projects that celebrate the college’s positive initiatives and programs, such as Match Day and the Alliance Research Initiative.

Greathouse is a University of Kentucky alumna, receiving her bachelor’s degree in integrated strategic communication. She is currently in her final year of the UK Master of Business Administration program.

Prior to becoming senior director of communications, Greathouse was the national public relations manager at Big Ass Fans, leading the company’s external communications strategies. She also worked more than five years at Moroch, most recently as the central division communications manager helping local McDonald’s co-ops execute their community engagement and public relations goals.
