As part of our LCME Update series, this month we're pulling back the curtain on what an accreditation site visit involves — and sharing some good news: our mock site visit takes place August 10–11, giving us a valuable dry run ahead of the full LCME survey visit October 5–6.
So what does a site visit actually look like? Over two days, a small team of experienced medical educators from peer institutions meets with dozens of groups across the College — the Dean and senior leadership, course and clerkship directors, department chairs, residents, librarians, finance staff, and students from every class year and campus. Some sessions are broad, covering topics like the learning environment or student support; others dig into specifics, like resources for clinical instruction or faculty development. The team also tours our educational spaces and reviews the self-study and supporting data submitted in advance.
It's a thorough process, but not everyone will sit down with the team directly — and that's by design. The visit samples a representative cross-section of our community, not every individual. Nearly 60 faculty, students, residents, and staff already helped shape the self-study document itself, submitted right on schedule this past June. We enter this cycle in full compliance across all 12 LCME standards — the strongest position we've been in since our last full survey in 2018.
Think of the mock visit as our final rehearsal. Thank you for everything you do to make this process a success.
