Please join us on Thursday, January 27th at 12:00PM to hear Dr. Antentor Othrell Hinton, Jr., Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at Vanderbilt School of Medicine, discuss Mentoring Trainees Through DEI, Social Media, Scientific Research, Service, and Beyond.
Dr. Hinton’s research projects, including those funded by United Negro College Fund/Bristol Myers Squibb, the Burroughs Wellcome Fund’s Career Awards at the Scientific Interface, and NIH-SRP, aim to elucidate the molecular mechanisms that regulate molecule transfer and morphology changes between the mitochondria and the endoplasmic reticulum and how these mechanisms are altered during pathophysiological states such as diabetes, obesity, and cardiovascular disease. Dr. Hinton has an extensive mentoring history, having mentored 50 graduate and undergraduate students. He has successfully obtained competitive support for his mentees from multiple university and external sources and has received numerous awards for his thoughtful and attentive mentoring. Throughout his career, Dr. Hinton has been actively involved in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts and has been recognized by Forbes magazine as one of the 100 Black Culture Makers and Thought Leaders for his efforts.
