Research

My lab is interested in studying how reactive oxygen species contribute to carcinogenesis and cancer progression. The scope of our research includes study of (1) intracellular signaling events mediated by reactive oxygen species and environmental carcinogens, (2) unique molecular indicators of oxidative stress, and (3) understanding how they contribute to tumorigenesis, tumor promotion and cancer progression in vertebrates. Our current research is focused on elucidating the molecular mechanism of Sulfiredoxin, a novel oxidative stress induced redox enzyme, in promoting invasion and metastasis of human cancer cells. Experimental strategies such as cell culture, protein expression & purification, gene manipulation, expression profiling and mouse models of carcinogenesis are regularly applied in the lab. Positions are available for motivated undergraduate, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows.
