Brittany Levy, MD, was recently appointed to a committee within the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Her new role will allow her to help improve the clinical learning environment for graduate medical trainees across the country.

As part of the Clinical Learning Environment Review (CLER) Evaluation Committee, Dr. Levy will be able to engage her expertise to help develop site review criteria, examine data, and identify opportunities for change.

Dr. Levy officially began her term July 1.

She said she joined the committee to represent the resident experience with the learning environment, particularly relating to patient safety and quality improvement principles. She also wanted to learn more about how the ACGME shapes medical education and how important aspects of medical education are selected for integration into residencies of all specialties nationwide.

“So far I have met absolutely amazing people from institutions across the country,” she said. “So many educators from all different specialties and career states are passionate about medical education and the constant improvement of medical education. It has been inspiring!”

On the committee, she hopes to offer the perspective of the modern resident.

“We are going through residency in unprecedented times, with record amounts of burnout, physician suicide, and union formation,” she said. “Additionally, we are living in a digital age with a global resident community through social media. I hope to bring a new approach on how use this community and global information access to improve the clinical learning environment.”
