In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, buildings across the University of Kentucky’s campus will shine pink beginning 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, through Oct. 27.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month began in 1985 when the American Cancer Society and Imperial Chemical Industries wanted to advocate, raise awareness and gain funding for research to generate a cure. This collaborative effort started as a way to educate women about breast cancer and early detection tests such as mammograms.

One in eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime. Breast cancer screenings save lives.
