Sports Medicine Fellowship
Sports Medicine Fellowship
The University of Kentucky Sports Medicine Fellowship provides a well-rounded look at the world of sports medicine including sideline team coverage, training room evaluation, and operative and non-operative treatment of common musculoskeletal problems that we encounter in a sports medicine practice.
Typical Cases During the Fellowship
- Complex and multiligament knee: high volume and complex cases
- Cartilage restoration, transplantation, and osteotomies: Primary referral center in the state of Kentucky
- Shoulder: arthroscopic and open instability; primary and revision shoulder arthroplasty
- Elbow: throwing athlete management; open and arthroscopic management
- Pediatric: physeal sparing techniques; unique considerations of the pediatric athletes
High Volume of Youth, High School, and College Sports Athletes
We provide sports medicine coverage for the University of Kentucky, Kentucky State University, Eastern Kentucky University, Georgetown College, and many area high schools. Throughout the year you will have the opportunity to be the primary team physician covering the sidelines during numerous different events at different levels of competition. Often you will be the “team doc” for that event.
Sports Medicine Research
Research focus includes allograft use in knee surgery, graft fixation, shoulder mechanics, and proprioception. Sports Medicine has three accredited fellowships at the PGY- 6 level. The publications of past UK sports medicine fellows -- Scholarly Activity by Sports Fellows 2012 to Present -- demonstrates the breadth of their research and the depth of their productivity.
