Welcome to the College of Medicine Division of Hematology and Blood and Marrow Transplant

The division is committed to delivering the highest level of care to patients with hematologic malignancies, hemoglobinopathies, bleeding disorders, and other hematologic problems. Our team consists of nine attending physicians, one full-time research faculty, 12 hematology/oncology fellows, and 10 advanced practice practitioners.

Our hematopoietic cell transplant and cell therapy program is fully Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT)-accredited and is the largest bone marrow transplantation program in the state.

Since 2018, our chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T cell program has continuously expanded offering CAR-T cell therapy to different diseases utilizing commercial and research cell therapy products. The new therapy is offered to those who have failed the standard of care for diffuse large B cell lymphoma and would otherwise have limited options for care. This therapy is a major breakthrough in the treatment of B cell lymphoma and leukemia available in a select few cancer centers across the country and only offered in Kentucky at the UK Markey Cancer Center through the cell therapy program in the division of hematology.

Embedded in the Markey Cancer Center, tumor boards and multidisciplinary workgroups ensure quality and safety of care, and we have numerous clinical trials providing access to novel and front-line therapies.

Our faculty members are actively involved in national and international committees and working groups. Our basic science laboratory has a focus on graft versus host disease and bringing bench to bedside. Since 2017 our hematopoietic cell transplant and cell therapy program has been the cornerstone for UK HealthCare as a certified radiation injury and treatment network site to provide on a national level lifesaving bone marrow transplants and supportive therapy in the event of a nuclear catastrophe.

Our physicians are dedicated to providing the most advanced care for hematologic patients in a caring and convenient atmosphere. We enhance our care through research and education for physicians, staff, and patients. Both patients and physicians can contact our friendly and caring staff for appointments or information at 859-257-6006.

Sincerely,
Gregory Monohan, MD
Interim Division Chief of Hematology, Blood and Marrow Transplants, and Cellular Therapy Program
