All Blood-Related Diseases

The hematology, blood and marrow transplantation, and cellular therapy program team treats all blood-related diseases, including aplastic anemia and other conditions that stem from a bone marrow failure, as well as some solid neoplastic diseases. Our experts perform both autologous transplants, which use stem cells from the patient, and allogeneic procedures, which use stem cells from a donor.

Hematology and Oncology

Our attending physicians are trained in medical hematology and oncology, and each brings specific expertise in transplants and blood-related cancers. Because UK HealthCare takes a cooperative, highly integrated approach to medicine, patients in the program also have access to experts in every medical and surgical subspecialty. Our nurses have an average of 12 years of experience in blood and marrow transplants and are certified in chemotherapy, biotherapy, and oncology nursing.

Full Support Team

The hematology, blood and marrow transplantation, and cellular therapy program team also includes a dietitian and a social worker for both inpatient and outpatient consultation. Care coordinators and disease-team leaders coordinate inpatient and outpatient care. Because every facet of UK HealthCare is dedicated to remaining on the leading edge of modern medicine, a variety of clinical research programs are underway within the program at UK Markey Cancer Center.
