Zaki-Udin Hassan, MBBS

Dr. Hassan is chair and professor of anesthesiology. He is also director of simulation education,  director of liver transplant anesthesia, and cardiothoracic anesthesiologist at UK. He is intimately involved in all aspects of simulation education, including development of scenarios, teaching at all levels of medical education, and simulation education research. Dr. Hassan has authored numerous articles in the area of simulation education. He completed crisis resource management instructors training at Stanford University as well as METI HPS and Laerdal SimMan 3G instructor and user trainings.

Shira Gambrel, MD

Dr. Gambrel is an associate professor of anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky. She received her Doctor of Medicine from LSU College of Medicine-Shreveport in 2008 and completed her anesthesiology residency at the University of Kentucky in 2012. She completed crisis resource management instructors training at Stanford University and Laerdal SimMan 3G instructor and user training. Dr. Gambrel is co-director of simulation and a MOCA course instructor.

Dung Nguyen, MD

Dr. Nguyen is an associate professor of anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky. He is an attending physician and vice chair of clinical affairs in the College of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in 2008 and completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Kentucky in 2012. He completed crisis resource management instructors training at Stanford University and Laerdal SimMan 3G instructor and user training. Dr. Nguyen is a MOCA course instructor.

Regina Fragneto, MD

Dr. Fragneto is a professor of anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky. She is an attending physician and director of obstetric anesthesia in the department of anesthesiology. Dr. Fragneto is an editor for the American Society of Anesthesiology’s Anesthesiology Continuing Education (ACE) and self-education and evaluation programs. She completed crisis resource management instructors training at Stanford University and a Laerdal SimMan 3G instructor and user training course. Dr. Fragneto is involved with developing scenarios and a curriculum relating to obstetric anesthesia and is a simulation instructor.

Katya Fain, MD

Dr. Fain is an Assistant Professor of anesthesiology and program co-director of simulation for the UK Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative Critical Care and Pain Medicine. She completed medical school in 2015 at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine and completed residency in 2019 at UK HealthCare as well. She completed the “Healthcare Simulation Essentials: Design and Debriefing” course through the Harvard Center for Medical Simulation in December of 2023.
