Support for Stroke Survivors and Caregivers

The Eastern Kentucky Stroke Warrior support group, formerly known as the Hazard area Stroke Survivor and Caregiver Stroke Support Group, is the first of its kind in Perry County to offer support for stroke survivors and caregivers. It was established in 2015 as part of the Kentucky Care Coordination for Community Transition (KC3T) program and is registered with the National Stroke Association. The stroke support group’s service area includes the Eastern Kentucky region. The group is very active in the community conducting educational campaigns, providing stroke risk screenings, creating public service announcements, and many other activities.

Stroke Awareness Month

May is Stroke Awareness Month and each year, the support group plans multiple activities to educate the community about stroke prevention, signs, and symptoms. The members of the support group advocate for city and county officials to sign proclamations to declare May as Stroke Awareness Month in our local communities.

World Stroke Day

World Stroke Day occurs annually on October 29 to bring global attention to the serious nature and high rates of stroke. The Eastern Kentucky Stroke Warrior group hosts activities and events on this day to increase awareness about stroke prevention and treatment.
